RadioIndy is pleased to present Hypnotiks with a GrIndie Award for the CD "In the Way"
"In the Way" is the two-song EP from Hypnotiks & Damien Lynch, a production duo from Northwest London that explores new possibilities with their music. The album features two versions of their medium tempo "In the Way," one edition with vocals and an instrumental version. The instrumental version showcases the creative programming of the duo, where inventive beats and drum loops are combined with many melodic textures and colors of sounds. The vocal version adds their intoxicating and hypnotic melodies to mix, layering well-delivered harmonies that provide a smooth feel and depth to the recording. Both versions are memorable and well-produced, with the focus being catchy hooks combined with syncopated drum sounds. This two-song EP is a great introduction to Hypnotiks & Damien Lynch, leaving the listener eager for more. Fans of hip-hop with a chiefly melodic sound will enjoy "In the Way."

RadioIndy is pleased to present Miguel Rodrigues with a GrIndie Award for the CD "Micro Talk"
"Micro Talk" by Miguel Rodrigues is an innovative electronica and house album that is full of funky riffs and soulfully energetic beats. Rodrigues without a doubt has a style all his own, composed of electronica, house, dance, funk, and jazz, and this album puts that style on full display. The listener will certainly experience a sort of serenity while listening to "Micro Talk," as he takes listeners on a journey filled with layer upon layer of beautiful sounds mixed with warm, but active, grooves and beats. The sequences are all very tight and the production is of very high quality. "Blue Ball" kicks things off, and to say it is funky would be a tremendous understatement. It's an excellent introduction track that gives the full taste of the style of tracks to come. "Mr. G" pulls things back a bit and gives you more of a deep house vibe while still maintaining Rodrigues' style. The title track "Micro Talk" wraps things up and features some clever horn work and a bit of sex appeal. Those that enjoy discovering unique electronica artists with a multitude of influences will love "Micro Talk" and should waste no time in picking this one up.

Michael Behm Ink19 review
Saving America
Singer/songwriter Michael Behm may write about saving America, but his musical instincts were carved overseas, from the buoyant harmonies and crisp guitar jangle of The Beatles. Being blatantly inspired by The Beatles is nothing new; in fact, Oasis rocketed to stardom from it. What separates Behm from his fellow Fab Four disciples is that the influence can only be heard on the surface level; beneath it, there's a distinct personality breathing and exhaling its own air. Lyrically, Behm is far from copping John Lennon or Paul McCartney. The title track originates from a unique perspective, a foreigner (Behm is Canadian) lamenting the tarnished image of the United States. Of course, this is due to the wrecking crew of George W. Bush and his cronies. Behm isn't bashing the country; rather, he's saddened by how its ideals were corrupted ("You bought the allusion/ By kissing the ring of your redneck king"). It is powerful songwriting but Behm flavors the tune with sweet, power-pop hooks that, even if the message is lost, it'll still ring in the ears hours after the CD has stopped playing.
"The Art of Letting Go" and "Ticket to Heaven" is some of this year's best Britpop, albeit made in Canada. It's easy to get swept up into the momentum of Behm's infectiously melodic pop/rock. One could easily envision him opening up for Crowded House, another act with a serious crush on The Beatles and, like Behm, were able to inject their own flavors into the mix. There are times, especially on "Don't Believe," wherein Behm recalls fellow Canadian Raine Maida of Our Lady Peace; however, the music definitely isn't grunge despite the flashes of fuzz here and there. The finale, "Take Me Down to the River," is Behm at his most aggressive but it is classic, fist-pumping rock and roll, the kind with which Bruce Springsteen can stir up a stadium.
