"Modern Day Tragedy" New sonic high water mark!

"Modern Day Tragedy" New sonic high water mark!
As I was into the last hours of a mix that started last Friday I did not know if this track was crap or not. I finished it last night at midnight I was all alone. I thought about all the many people who have made this track what it has become and was grateful.
The song has come a long way from writing it with Ralph Murphy at my dinner table with an acoustic guitar. To tracking the drums with Randal Stoll and my production team at the Warehouse with my long-time friend and partner Delwyn Brooks, an amazing talent! The song took me back to my studio, recording bass and keyboards with John Dryden and Andrew Lorimer. Finally the string arrangement by Christian Howes was done at Berklee.
We removed, edited and revised the arrangement to stay on point. “It’s all about the little girl”
Delwyn returned to mix the track with me for a few two days sessions.
Here I am sending it to you all I have to say is “I can stand behind it and now own it”

Everything is a bit slow right now. Record Union has a temporary backlog with Spotify which means that it will take a while before Uncut & Lo-Fi will be up. To register at Record Union I also need the ISRC numbers that CDBABY will give to me within 5-7 days.

The gig is approaching and that is good news. You can buy our discs there.

I found that all my signed artists:

That is a question that I can answer.

We are living in the age of hi-tech. All music has to be digitally this and that. I am reading Chuck Berry's biography for the moment and I get inspired by the focus on the actual music and not on the equipment. We have had some concerts this year and musically I have been very satisfied. They have been recorded with camera and a portable recording device that Åke has. These two sources have been blended into one. Honesty is one of the leading terms for Reform. Because of this I thought that it would be a waste not to publish the tracks although they were very lo-fi. The music is good so why should the sound quality be that important? What we want to hear anyway is a group that has a sound within itself and that delivers well played music. When you first turn the album on you may react to the quality, but give it a chance and you will get used to it. The levels between instruments may be a bit strange but that is because Åke's device was placed near the drums and that the camera is moving constantly.

Well, I hope you settle with this explanation.

Now, go to Record Heaven's site and order your copy of Uncut & Lo-Fi.

Regards
Jesper

MICHAEL BEHM New Single "It's My Time"

MICHAEL BEHM
“It’s My Time”

With “It’s My Time,” prolific Canadian songsmith Michael Behm has crafted another winner. Rich in melody and possessing lyrics filled with universal resonance, it’s a song that belongs on Hot AC radio and in the hearts of its listeners.

Behm has earned a rapidly growing international following with his eloquent solo compositions, but “It’s My Time” marks a new foray into co-writing. The song is the shining outcome of a highly creative collaboration with legendary Canadian songwriter Ron Irving.

Behm had been working on an earlier version of the track, but Irving’s subsequent input in terms of the lyrics and arrangement proved invaluable. “The song went through a positive change, and I’m thrilled with the results,” says Behm. “I put the track out to my network of people around the world and the response has been overwhelming.”

The track will be features on the 2009 season of American Idol exposing Behm to millions of listener’s worldwide.

“It’s My Time” takes the listener on a voyage of emotional discovery when the singer finds he is now on the big stage and as Behm says, “The crowd is going wild!” The track features Behm’s expressive and honest vocals and guitar work. This is complemented by the superb accompaniment of A-list player’s drummer Randall Stoll (Tom Cochrane), bassist Scott Macleod (Platters) Steve Morris (Ian Gillan Band). Recording of the track took place at both Bryan Adam’s Warehouse Studios and Behm’s Vancouver Island studio. The track was mixed by Behm’s long time partner Delwyn Brooks, (INXS, Coverdale / Jimmy Page) with mastering by Brian Gardner at Bernie Grundman, Katy Perry, Linkin Park.

The result is another pop gem, one that belongs on your AAA play list.

RadioIndy is pleased to present Soznak with a GrIndie Award for the CD "Dear Dad Tango"

Soznak, a group comprised of multi-ethnic musicians, has released a charming collection of music filled with originality on their latest album "Dear Dad Tango." This group offers a wide assortment of musical instruments ranging from accordion to African drums. The chemistry between the musicians is felt throughout this disc with their high-spirited energy. Feel the horn section on "Tata Y Mama" as the rhythm is bouncy with harmonious lyrics. "Cooking in the Kitchen" is a formula for good music and food while the vocals and wind section take this number up a notch. The title track "Dear Dad Tango" features lyrics that are strong and emotional, while simultaneously describing sentimental values of the loss of a loved one. For listeners who would like to hear a mixture of different types of instruments infused with catchy beats, Soznak's "Dear Dad Tango" is well worth listening to and should definitely be checked out.

RadioIndy is pleased to present Triflemore with a GrIndie Award for the CD "Words From Notes"

RadioIndy is pleased to present Triflemore with a GrIndie Award for the CD "Words From Notes"

Triflemore blends the guitar and voice into one beautiful sound on their latest disc, "Words From Notes." The talented duo is comprised of singer Susan Rhea, who hails from small-town America, and guitarist Owen Goudie from the Shetland Islands. Together, their collaborative talents combine to produce a touching CD, filled with throwback sounds of folk singers from the late 1960's. Rhea's voice is reminiscent of Joni Mitchell in all the best ways imaginable. Her voice is wonderful to hear and her eloquent tones can be heard on songs like "Goudfield" and "Perfect." Not to go unnoticed, Goudie's finger style guitar work is also exceptional in its own right. You can tell he has crafted his melodies around Rhea's vocals and intertwines them so one does not overshadow the other. A highlight of his playing can be heard on "Signal." "Words From Notes" is a perfect fit for any Joni Mitchell or Emmylou Harris fan and could very well be used to paint the soundtrack of all of our lives.

RadioIndy is pleased to present Finlay Morton with a GrIndie Award for the CD "Back to Basics 2009 Remix"

RadioIndy is pleased to present Finlay Morton with a GrIndie Award for the CD "Back to Basics 2009 Remix"

Finlay Morton takes a crop of classic rock influences and fuses them together with some country, resulting in a fine album called "Back to Basics 2009 Remix." Morton's songwriting is very similar to that of Tom Petty, with Americana flowing throughout the album and the sound of an organ whirling about. This influence is most evident on songs like "Hang On To Your Dreams" and "My Friend". The best attribute about Morton is his silky rock voice, emulating the more recent vocal tones of Pink Floyd's Roger Waters. Give "Scary Monsters" a good listen and you will hear those vocal tones similar to Waters'. There is also some nice country lap steel work on the song "Back To The Start". If you own Petty's "Wild Flowers" album or anything put out recently by Neil Young, you will love Finlay Morton's "Back to Basics 2009 Remix."

"Kärlekssånger I" by Göran Engdahl (Folk/Blues Artist from Sweden)

Göran Engdahl serves up some generous helpings of acoustic Folk/Blues on his latest album "Kärlekssånger I." As an accomplished classical guitarist, Engdahl brings to life his expressive songs of love with sweet and emotive tenderness. Although this CD is not sung with English words, you will still feel the relaxed and ambient feelings Engdahl offers. His vocals delight the listener with soft and delicate tonality while at times his vocal range reaches deep down to a lower register as you will hear on "Livets lycka med varann" and "Varhelst du går, din bild jag får." The vibrant and melodic melody of "Bit för bit" presents a wonderful acoustic guitar deftly fingering its way across the fret board. The clever electric guitar riffs on "Tröst i mitt hjärta" complement the upbeat and energetic vocals. If you're looking for some fresh new acoustic folk music featuring some finger-picked guitar, then check out the album "Kärlekssånger I."

The new record Uncut & Lo-Fi will arrive on either Tuesday or Wednesday. The cd consists of seven tracks:

1. Lion Bar
2. Spooky
3. Thru Breaks
4. Uncle Urri II
5. Unmajor
6. Amanita Muscaria
7. Hellstone

Spooky comes originally from the album Reduced & Maximized, which is a trio album, from 2004 and is here heard for the first time with the seven piece with Åke on drums. Spooky was written by Johan Klaeson and I and it is very intense in this new version.

Uncle Urri II was written by Alvaro and I in September this year just before the last concert at Stockholm Fusion Club. It came about when Alvaro was trying to get some inspiration for the soundtrack to the movie he is working on for the moment. I appreciate Steve Reich a lot and I am especially fascinated by his phases. So I showed him a piano phase and Alvaro immediately took to it. He played a simple phrase to make a phase out of and I thought it sounded beautifully. That piano line became the core of Uncle Urri II. A beautiful piece here with Anders on drums.

Unmajor came about on the 24th of January 2009 during a jam session with Anders, Peter and I. Anders came up with a groove, Peter with a melody and I with a bassline. Then it was ready. The only thing we changed during the rehearsals for the STFC gig was the meter during the improvisational part. Now it goes 8+4+4 bars.

Here follows the original recording from the jam session with Peter, Anders and I for you who missed it last time I published it.
